Our Approach

At Wilder, the way we work is guided by our commitment to the natural world. Here’s what that looks and feels like.

We seek to inspire connection with nature

We design and build gardens because we want others to care deeply about the natural world. For us, it’s what matters most.

We choose our plants consciously

Our plant selection is ‘right plant, right place’. This minimises the need for irrigation systems and extensive maintenance. We also prioritise UK-based nurseries that grow their own plants organically and domestically.

We go beyond design and build

A garden is never finished – we believe ongoing stewardship is vital to ensure every space justifies build costs. We adopt organic gardening methods and permaculture techniques to recreate natural cycles wherever possible.

We protect and promote existing ecosystems

In every design and build we consider existing ecosystems, and work to protect them. We believe a nature-first approach promotes biodiversity, and enhances the experience of being in our spaces.

We work to minimise our carbon footprint

We manage the carbon footprint of every space we create. This means prioritising the use of responsibly sourced materials; and exploring reclaimed and recycled solutions where appropriate. Our vehicle fleet is fully electric, as are nearly all our tools – and we only use petrol tools and machines when absolutely necessary.

We are always learning

Nature is the greatest teacher. We are, and always will be, a work in progress. We also recognise how, as a landscaping practice operating within London, we perpetuate elitist models of land ownership and privilege. Accordingly, we allocate time and resources to community projects when possible.
